PhD Professor, Associate Professor of Ethnology at the University of Tartu (Estonia) Aimar Ventsel gives a course of guest lectures on the topic "Central Asia and Kazakhstan in Western anthropology" for students and teaching staff of the Faculty of HistoryFrom September 18 to October 14, 2023.
Course description
This course is simultaneously teaching Western tradition of anthropology/ethnology and what Western scholars have studied in the Central Asia and Kazakhstan. The course is formed from thematic blocks. The first lecture of a block is the introduction to a topic and the following lectures deal with the literature and research of the region. The topics that will be discussed are economic anthropology, legal anthropology, postcolonialism but also research of modern culture of Central Asian states. This way, the student learn about main directions of Western social science research.
